Version 1.10 is out!

Another release of Mappero Geotagger is waiting for you! Version 1.10 is mainly a bugfix release, bringing you the following:

  • A crash happening while loading certain DNG files has been fixed
  • The Yandex Satellite map is working again
  • In the help screen a note will appear when a new version is available

There have indeed been several other changes, but mostly on the non user-facing parts of the application. It might be worth mentioning, though, that there has been some progress on having Mappero (the mapping application, not just the geotagging functionality) running on Android.

To get Mappero Geotagger 1.10, please head to the download page.

Stay tuned for more news!

Version 1.9 is released!

Mappero Geotagger 1.9 has been released last weekend. The attentive reader might notice that I skipped a release, and while version 1.8 indeed made a brief appearance in the Apple Store, it was never announced on this site.

Here's the list of changes since the last public release (1.7):

  • Zooming with the mouse wheel now pivots on the mouse cursor
  • Prevent the same files to be added twice in the same session
  • Make HERE maps work again
  • Avoid sub-pixel smoothing of map tiles to improve readability
  • Set proper application icon for Linux window managers
  • Update About page for new site links
  • Handle pinch gesture for zooming
  • Handle wheel events on the image list
  • Increase the tile cache size to avoid issues on HighDPI displays
  • Improve item centering and zooming when adding geotagged photos

Please consider buying this version, and do let me know should you encounter any issues.

Version 1.7 available for download

Version 1.7 of Mappero Geotagger for Linux, macOS and Windows has been published into this site. As a matter of fact, version 1.7 was tagged more than a month ago, and it has since been available in the macOS store; also, daily builds for Ubuntu users are produced in this PPA, but users of other distributions and Windows users were left out.

So, while the usual distribution methods continue to be available, from now on you can also get Mappero Geotagger from this website, for Windows, macOS and all flavors of Linux.

As you might soon discover, if you head to the front page and hit the “Download” button, Mappero Geotagger must actually be purchased. This is not contradicting the Open Source license of it, and I will be certainly not against if someone redistributes the application to friends or even uploads it to a website — the more people know about it, the better!

But as I'm teared apart different projects and duties, I also need to find some stimulus to continue developing the application and dedicate it the care it needs. That's why the purchase page is there, and that's why I appreciate a donation if you got Mappero Geotagger for free.

That said, if you feel you cannot afford it, or would simply like to try the application before buying it, you are always welcome to contact me by writing an e-mail (my address is found at the bottom of every page), and I will send you a version free of charge.

Also, should you find any issues with the application, don't hesitate to report them in the bug tracker.

New website

Now Mappero Geotagger has a website of its own, albeit quite primitive. The old page will no longer be updated, and while news on the development of Mappero might still make an appearance in my personal blog, from now on the official news roll for Mappero is going to be this website's “News” section.
